Oxford Lions meeting 1-28-2014

The regular scheduled Lions meeting was called to order by King Lion Ken Paul

Guests: Denise Paul, Jen Bartle, Mary El Emerson, Dee Lambert

Guest speaker: District Governor Kermit Mott

He spoke about his 24 years of being a Lion – about his different positions within the Lions organization, and reminding us of important upcoming Lions Events.

Lions Cabinet meeting in Cortland on April 6, 2014 and the

State Convention in Lake Placid on April 25, 2014.

We heard again about the Eye Screening Program for children, and needed information sources such as Dave Rekowsky who is listed in the directory.

District Governor presented several awards to Lions for their long time club memberships and support within the Lions organization.  Lions Mary Weidman for 15 years – Brian Bartle for 45 years – Bob Marshman for 45 years – Ken Paul recognition award – Kathy Winans for District support – Gray Stevens.

Minutes were read and accepted  —  Treasurer’s report was read and accepted

Old Business:

Middle School Dance – is taking place on 1-31-2014.  This year’s theme is “Superbowl party”.

Ten Volunteers are available with food and refreshments.

Year Book page design – A design has been chosen and approved which is showing what Oxford Lions are all about.

Promoting Oxford – Business card size has been choosen and 500 cards will be printed.

a) Correspondence – Donation request from Physician Assistant Joseph Pisani of the Norwich Memorial Hospital.  Mr. Pisani will be travelling to Ghana on February 25 to March 9, 2014 to visit 5 villages and see patients.  Medical care is sparse in Ghana as there is only one doctor for 10,000 available.  Lions donated $250 to the cause.

b) Donation request – for a home fire for the Kathy and Mike Ryan family.  Lions donated $250.

c) Donation request – from the Oxford High School Drama Club.  The play “Red, White and Rosy” is taking place on February 28, 2014 – 7pm at the High School.  Lions donated $50.

Perch Derby preparations are in full swing – all paper work, transportation of trailers, measuring the ice thickness, food and drink is being taken care of.

Drug Awareness Program at Oxford School – Lion Jared is following up and is awaiting information.  Program is taking place on March 13, 2014.

New Business:

Bowling at Elk’s Club – exact date has not yet been chosen – it will be sometime in March 2014.

Middle School is auctioning off several school doors at $15 a piece.

PEO fundraising event at Six On The Square in Oxford on February 7, 2014 at 7pm.  Organization assists women in furthering education.  Tickets are $20.

Legion’s Valentine’s Party is also a fundraiser to help replace the roof of the building.

Winners: 50/50 Denise Paul + dinner Lion Debbie – both donated back to Lions
