Oxford Lions Club meeting November 22, 2011


The regular schedule Lions meeting was called to order by King Lion Michael LaCroce


Tonight’s guests: John Knapp, Mary El Emerson, District Governor Joe Defina


Old Business:

Middle School dance was held on November 24th for 90 kids – 8 volunteers were present – and all had a fun evening


Correspondence/nomination from High School Counselor was received – Matt Moore won the scholarship to attend HOBY camp.


Decorating Lafayette Park is taking place Friday, Nov. 25th + Tree Lighting Ceremony is Sunday, Nov. 27th.


Jim Podraza Lions Christmas Dinner – is scheduled for Dec. 17th, 2011.  Prep work should be done on the evening of the 16thJohn Weidman and Mary & Tred Place Farms donated 200 pounds of turkey meat.  Cooking and sharing Holiday fun is scheduled for the evening of the 16th.  Volunteers are needed to make this huge undertaking a success again.


Visiting Carol Loefsteadt is welcomed as she is back home in Oxford with family by her side.


New Business:

A)    Guest speaker, District Governor Joe Defina talked about his employment years and the years of being a member of the International Lions Organization.

B)    Ronald McDonald House in Syracuse – Joe Defina requested a donation for this project.  The Ronald McDonald House supports and houses family of hospitalized patients.  Lion donated $500.

C)    We learned that husband and wife Lions teams are eligible for a discount at the International Lions Fee-Level.

D)    However, we also learned that the International fees will be raised.  Lion David Emerson spoke up on the need for keeping our funds closer to home in Chenango County to aid the needy in our own Village of Oxford.  Joe Defina will take this information back to the Lions Headquarters.


Volunteer Jen Clark – provided information on the Chenango Memorial Hospital “Breakfast with Santa” event for children.  This is taking place on December 3, 2011 from 8 – 10a.m. in the hospital cafeteria.  Tickets cost $4.50 a piece – Lions donated $54 for 12 tickets to be handed out.


Oxford Holiday Committee – volunteer Mary El requested a donation for replacing and adding Christmas décor for Lafayette Park and for the bridge connecting both parts of Oxford.  Lions donated $500.


Holiday Raffle fundraiser – is chaired by Lion Mary Weidman.  This year’s them will be “Kissing Balls”.  Again, hoping to catch a winning ticket is the main attraction.  500 tickets have been printed – can be used for future events.


Eyed-glass application – was presented by Lion Carol Kuhn.


Perch Derby Update – Volunteers are needed to sell tickets at Mayhood’s store on November 25th.  Registration forms are also available on our website.


Volunteer Jen Clark has taken care of the press release – Lion Mary Weidman is doing the food permit paper work
